Mung Beans also known as "Monggo" or "Munggo" are really popular in the Philippines and are a part of the legume family. They are small in size, green in color and oval in shape.
Mung Beans are very nutritious because they are high in fiber and they contain no cholesterol. They can also prevent diseases because they are full of nutrients. They contain Folic Acid which helps prevent heart diseases and birth abnormalities. Mung Beans also contains traces of minerals that are also good for the body.
Mung Beans are very healthy to eat. They are usually common in Chinese cuisine and also in other Asian countries. Mung beans can be made into soups, like in the Philippines, it is called Ginisang Monngo. A soup dish made from Mung Beans with shrimps, sliced bitter gourd, Moringa leaves and chili leaves. Mung Bean sprout are also popular in Asian countries. These sprouts are cooked by sautéing with chunks of meat and can be eaten right away or stuffed in pies.
